Conrad Hughes (PhD, EdD) is an educational researcher, leader, and author known for leading international schools and advancing innovation in teaching and learning. As head of school and chief executive of the International School of Los Angeles, Dr. Conrad Hughes oversees the institution's strategic direction, academic excellence, community engagement, and operational management.
Dr. Hughes has spent more than 20 years in international education, progressing from a teacher to principal and senior executive. Before assuming his current position, he was the director general of the International School of Geneva. He was responsible for leading seven schools, managing more than 1,100 employees, overseeing approximately 4,500 students, and directing substantial operational and capital budgets. His focus was on strengthening academic performance, increasing student enrollment, and guiding long-term institutional planning.
Dr. Hughes has connected educational leadership with innovation. He led the development of the Learner Passport, promoted coaching-based professional growth, established policies for the responsible use of artificial intelligence, and supported initiatives focused on inclusion and education for peace. Earlier in his career, he helped build partnerships with UNESCO and developed teacher education programs with universities.
Alongside his leadership roles, Dr. Hughes has published books and research on artificial intelligence in education, assessment reform, critical thinking, educational leadership, and 21st-century learning. He regularly contributes to international publications and speaks at conferences, sharing practical approaches to improving educational systems.
